5. Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, Denmark

Europe’s only pair in men’s double is Denmark’s new best pair on the BWF World Ranking; Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen. They are number 7 in the world now and finished the HSBC Race to Guangzhou Ranking as number 5. The Danish duo reached three finals in 2018 and won two of them; the European Championships and Victor China Open, which is their biggest title to date. Some may remember the rather alternative yet very enjoyable celebration dance from Skaarup when the last point was played; running and dancing around his partner on court…

Results from finals 2018:

India Open: Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, Indonesia vs. Astrup/Skaarup, Denmark 21-14 21-16
European Championships: Astrup/Skaarup, Denmark vs. Mads Conrad-Petersen/Mads Kolding, Denmark 21-15 (retired)
Victor China Open: Astrup/Skaarup, Denmark vs. Han Chengkai/Zhou Haodong, China 21-13 17-21 21-14

6. Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan, Indonesia

2018 has been a revival for the experienced Indonesian pair Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan. The duo just needed 14 individual tournaments to bring themselves up as number 9 on the BWF World Ranking. They qualify to Guangzhou as number 6 on the HSBC Race to Guangzhou Ranking. Ahsan and Hendrawan only suffered one first round exit during the year; unfortunately that was on home soil at the Indonesia Open. The Indonesians won two titles in 2018 and reached another five semifinals.

Results from finals 2018:

Malaysia International Challenge: Ahsan/Hendrawan, Indonesia vs. Aaron Chia/Wooi Yik Soh, Malaysia 21-17 17-21 21-19
