The countdown to Guangzhou has started. All the eight best of the year in each category is in China to compete in the HBSC BWF World Tour Finals 2018. Here is a presentation of the players in the men’s double category.

1. Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, Indonesia

The Minions, as they are also called, have simply ruled this year. Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo are number 1 on the HSBC Race to Guangzhou Ranking as well as the normal BWF World Ranking, where they have a record gap down to number two. There are more than 26,000 points between the Indonesians and the second ranked pair. Gideon and Sukamuljo won the season finals last year (Superseries Finals). In 2018 they played 13 individual tournaments and only three times did they not reach the final. They won nine of their 10 finals, including the Asian Games on home soil in August.

2. Chen Hung Ling/Wang Chi-Lin, Chinese Taipei

The best Taiwanese pair had a busy year playing 22 tournaments. Despite no less than eight first round losses Chen Hung Ling and Wang Chi-Lin did managed to finish second on the HSBC Race to Guangzhou Ranking. On the BWF World Ranking they are number 4. The duo grabbed two titles in 2018; in New Zealand and back home.They reached the semifinals in additional four tournaments, including the World Championships, Japan Open and Victor China Open. Fun fact: Wang Chi-Lin also won the mixed double at New Zealand Open.
