11 times champion of Malaysia Open! That is the reality for Lee Chong Wei. But this year the road to success seems rather tough.
When Malaysia Open kicks off at the end of June, the draw in the men’s single would scare anyone. And for the Malaysian superstar, the draw is particularly tough.
In the same half he finds World Champion Viktor Axelsen, which he will face in the quarterfinals. Should he beat the Dane as he did at the Thomas Cup, he can expect to face either Lin Dan, Chen Long or Shi Yuqi – a fearsome Chinese trio.
So to get to the final this year, Lee Chong Wei really has to step up his game. But the Malaysian is confident:
“They are more or less the same opponents that I face in the other tournaments. I don’t think too much of who I’ll be facing. What’s important is to make the best preparation. With good preparation, comes good display,” says Lee Chong Wei to the Star.
In the first round he will face Sakai from Japan. That should be manageable, but he is definetly not an opponent to underestimate.
If Lee Chong Wei manages to get to the final, Kento Momota must be considered favorite to face him in the final.
What a tournament we have in front of us – We can’t wait!
