The world number one has set her mode on cruise control at the Chinese Taipei Open, which is played in Taipei City these days. All local eyes are set on local darling Tai Tzu Ying.

Tai Tzu Ying has been sitting tight on the top spot of the world ranking in women’s single for a very long time so she is obviously the big favorite to take the title on home soil this week. Chinese Taipei Open is a World Tour Super 300 tournament where the Taiwanese players are top seeded in four of the five categories.

Yesterday Tai was off to a shaky start against Vietnamese Vu Thi Trang B. who nailed first game 21-17. After this there has been no shaking moments for the Taiwanese shuttler who easily advanced to second round.

Today she faced another of the many local players in the tournament, Chiang Ying Li who is number four on the national ranking. Chiang couldn’t do anything to prevent a comfortable win for Tai Tzu Ying. The favorite won in just 22 minutes and is now ready for the quarterfinal tomorrow where yet another Taiwanese will be waiting; Sung Shuo Yun, 5th ranked in Chinese Taipei.

Offday for second seeded

For the second seeded women’s single, Michelle Li, first round yesterday was an offday. The Canadian is still fighting to find her right level on court again after a long time out due to surgery. Yesterday she failed to surpass Liang Ting Yu, the 10th ranked Taiwanese and number 190 on the world ranking.

Chiang, who was promoted to the main draw of Chinese Taipei Open due to withdrawals, won in straight games. Today she took another giant step as she won her second round match as well. This time she defeated compatriot Chen Su Yu who ranks 118 spot higher on the world ranking.
