Japan was the big winner of Korea Open, which finished today. Three titles for Japan while China and Chinese Taipei took one each. And only one unseeded entry had made it to the finals.
Japan was already sure to get at least two titles. The men’s double as well as the women’s double final was a battle between compatriots and training partners from the Land of the Rising Sun. The day started with men’s single though where we saw Chou Tien Chen from Chinese Taipei against Tommy Sugiarto from Indonesia.
The two shuttlers had won 4 matches each in their previous encounter, the last one being at Indonesia Open this year where Sugiarto won in three games. Today things were settled in two games and there was not really a big doubt about the outcome on the way.
Good preparation for next tournament
Being down 5-8 in first game Chou took 7 consecutive points, which he followed up by winning another 8 points soon thereafter. This was too much for Tommy Sugiarto to come back from and first game went to the Taiwanese 21-13.
In second game the Indonesian was hanging a bit better on to his opponent but little did it help as Chou Tien Chen closed the match in straight games. He won 21-16 and got the best preparation for next week’s World Tour Super 300 tournament on home soil next week, the Chinese Taipei Open in Taipei City.
