12 titles at Malaysia Open since 2004. That is the reality for Lee Chong Wei.

Lee Chong Wei is once again champion of Malaysia Open after winning against Kento Momota 21-17, 23-21.

The match was a test of stamina and patience. Both players demonstrated absolute superb defensive skill, great patience and badminton when it is at its best.

Lee Chong Wei took the first by 21-17 and for quite some time it looked like it would be an easy win for the Malaysian. But in the middle of the second set the Japanese got a better hold of the match and had 2 set-points, which could have forced the match into a deciding set.

In the end, the hawk eye decided everything and closed the set for Chong Wei 23-21 – in a set which lasted more than 40 minutes. What a thrilling set. Despite the match were decided in two sets it lasted 70 minutes before Chong Wei could raise his arms in glory.

Lee Chong Wei has now 12 Malaysia Open titles, which is an unbelievable amount. The Malaysian has also demonstrated that Momota is not unbeatable. When looking at the upcoming tournaments it will be interesting to follow both Momota but also Chong Wei in their hunt for more trophies.
