Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt shocked Chinese Taipei with great start against Tai Tzu Ying in the women’s single final today. The Dane played her chances against the world number one in Taipei City.
It was the world no. 1 from Chinese Taipei against the world no. 28 from Denmark in the last final of Chinese Taipei Open. It was the match the local spectators had been looking most forward to. Their favorite and darling, Tai Tzu Ying, was just one match away from claiming the title in the World Tour Super 300 tournament on home soil.

They hadn’t taken Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt into account though. The Danish number 2 delivered a very nice start on the match, which started off very close. Towards the end of first game Tai was leading by just one point but a strong finish with 5 consecutive points for Kjærsfeldt gave the Dane first game 21-17. It was first time in three matches she won a game against the Taiwanese, and it was only second game in the tournament that Tai lost.
The world no. 1 stepped up
After the shaky start Tai Tzu Ying stepped up in second game though. She showed why she had been number one in the world for so long time and basically outplayed her Danish opponent. At no point was Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt close to put pressure on the local favorite and second game went to the Taiwanese with 21-10.
The decisive game started very bad for Kjærsfeldt who couldn’t find her game again. She was down 0-8 before she got her first point, but at this moment it was just way too difficult to come back and win the match. Tai Tzu Ying claimed the title on home soil with 21-13 in third game, something that obviously made the many thousand local spectators break out in joy.
Next tournament we will follow on Badminton Famly is the Dutch Open that kicks off on Tuesday 9 October. Next tournament for Tai and Kjærsfeldt will be Denmark Open one week later.
