Below we have picked some of the interesting results and matches from todays matches:
Berry Angriawan/Hardianto Hardianto vs. Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup:
The Danes no. 7 on the latest rankings, usually playing with very high level and very hard to beat. But the young Indonesians was just amazing today, showing world class play in front of a homecrowd cheering like never before. They won it “easy” 21/14 21/12. It really proves that this stadium really gives Indonesians a huge advantage. Will be exiting to watch them tomorrow as they take on Liao Min Chun/Su Ching Hang from Teipei, who also surprised in their first round beating Japanese Endo/Watanabe in 3 tight sets.
Sindhu going for the title?
She showed really high level today beating Japans Aya Ohori 21/17 21/14, and looks really confident. Maybe Sindhu can go all the way this week? She needs to beat Chinas He Bingjiao in the quarterfinal to still have a shot at the title. The 2 girls have a 5-5 head 2 head history, so can go either way.
Kirsty on fire:
Kirsty Gilmour really showed today that she is a player to watch, always improving and showing higher skills every time we see her on court. Her best results ever is a silver at the Commonwealth Games, but is this quarterfinal at a World Tour 1000 better for her? She beat Japans Sayaka Sato 21/19 17/21 21/14, and Sato won against Carolina Marin in round 1, so really shows she has high level. Tomorrow she will face World no. 1 Tai Tzu Ying from Teipei, so lets just say that she really needs to be lucky to go through to the semis, Tai playing just amazing at the moment, but will be fun to follow.
