Hong Kong: 1 medal

Hong Kong has returned home with medals from the Asian Games every time since 2002 where they even enjoyed a women’s single final between two of their own players. In Jakarta they added to their collection with one more medal.

Team event

Hong Kong’s women lost their first match 0-3 to Indonesia and the men lost with the same score to China in the quarterfinal. This left Hong Kong without medals at the team event in Jakarta.

Individual event

Mixed double duo Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet were close to losing their first match but managed to bag it 22-20 in third game. In the semifinal they had another very close match in three games as the eliminated China’s runners-up from the World Championships, Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping; all three games were settled with a two point margin. In the final however, luck had run out for Tang and Tse who saw themselves defeated by Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong, the Chinese World Champions, in two games. And that made the Hongkongers bring back silver to their country.
