Malaysian medias report that living legend Lee Chong Wei returned back home yesterday evening after two months of treatment in Taiwan. The 35-year old Malaysian kindly asks everyone to be patient with him.
First things first, and right now all Lee Chong Wei needs and asks for is some days of rest. It has been two tough months for him in Taiwan where he received treatment for what was first announced as a “respiratory-related disease”. It later turned out that the Malaysian suffers from early stage nose cancer.
Several journalists had tried to find out when Lee Chong Wei would return home to Malaysia but Lee and his team has not wanted to reveal when. Eventually he landed in a private jet in Kuala Lumpur yesterday evening at 9:15 PM local time.
Lee Chong Wei requested that no reporters would be waiting for him at the airport in Kuala Lumpur when he would return home. Needless to say he requests people to respect his privacy and he has promised to meet the press later.
Don’t wait for me!
“All of you do not have to wait for me, I need to rest for now and I’ll meet members of the media one day,” Lee has told the Malaysian press.
All of Malaysia was first shocked by the news that Lee Chong Wei was absent from training for two weeks prior to the World Championships few months ago. Later the whole badminton world was shocked as it turned out things were more serious than first anticipated.
A couple of weeks ago BAM held a press conference telling about the situation. You can see some of it in the video below.
