The successful head coach behind triple World Champion from Spain, Carolina Marín, has completed his PhD and is now to be addressed Doctor Rivas. The 40-year old coach defended his doctoral thesis this Friday morning in Madrid.
Fernando Rivas has been a student at the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sports Science of the Polytechnic University of Madrid for three years. His thesis began more than ten years ago though when he was living in the Netherlands. When he returned to Spain he didn’t manage to catch up with it so he took a pause from it some time.
Friday morning the successful coach who we normally recognize dressed in sports gear showed up at the university in black suit, white shirt and black tie – and a Yonex bag. He successfully defended his doctoral thesis where focus is on the combination of science and training.
Most badminton fans surely must know the historic results Fernando Rivas has helped bringing to his country with Carolina Marín’s many titles and medals. Three World Championship titles count for themselves. Add thereto the Olympic gold in 2016 as well as several European Championship titles and Superseries titles as well.
This is the fairytale about a Spanish top coach, Fernando Rivas, who has won everything and who is extremely good at what he does, but who still wanted to improve so he went back to school. His new title as Dr. Rivas is well-earned and fully deserved.
Congratulations to the Doctor from BadmintonFamly!
