The 2019 German Open is the fifth tournament of the BWF World Tour and will be held from 26 February to 3 March 2019.
The draws show signs of incredibly interesting and exciting matches. Young talents are being presented, but who should we especially watch out for?
No-show players are preparing for All England
Based on the draw, it appears that Denmark this time does not participate in the German Open. The reason for this is that the Danish players are well underway with preparations for All England 2019, which runs from the 6th to the 10th of March. In order to reduce the possibilities for injuries and ensure a tower-high level, we, therefore, do not get the opportunity to see the same group Danish top-players as usual in action. Fortunately, there is a lot of other high-level badminton at the German Open you do not want to miss. The organizers of the tournament once again look forward to experiencing the tension and the talented players.
“The YONEX German Open is fortunately always the prelude to the European series. The players keep telling us that they find it extremely nice to come here and play. We also receive a lot of positive feedback from the audience – they really like the tournament”
– Boris Reichel, Promotion Manager of YONEX

In men’s singles, the field is strong but a fight that could be particularly exciting would be Lin Dan against Momota in a semi-final. Momota is known for his explosive movements on court and his unpredictable style of play and he has expressed that he will look forward to getting the opportunity to play against Lin Dan – he spices up the men’s singles battle.
Japan is highly represented
In especially the women’s singles, it will be exciting to follow the show-down between Li Xuerui from China and Japanese Akane Yamaguchi. Three years ago, in just the age of 17, Akane Yamaguchi managed to defeat Li Xuerui after an intense battle. There will certainly be
It is also worth noting that Japan competes with a full team which increases their chances of winning many categories.
