Olympic Champion and former World Champion Chen Long is far from the level of play we usually see. Once again he lost a first round match in one of the big tournaments.
Last week Chen Long left the Malaysia Open already in the first round. Chen Long lost to Kantaphon Wangcharoen from Thailand by a whopping 23-21 21-5, a player who usually would be managble for the experienced Chinese. Today the story unfolded again at Indonesia Open as he lost to Brice Leverdez from France.
After being behind 2-10 in the first set, Chen Long made a great comeback and won the first set by 21-17.
In the second set, Chen Long had the chance the close the match leading 20-19. But Leverdez fought his way back in the match and won 3 consecutive points and forced the match into a deciding set.
The third set was a close affair. Until 15-15 the two players followed each other. But then Chen Long won 3 consecutive points and got what you thought was a deciding lead. But Leverdez won 5 points in row at the end and decided the match by 19-21.
What a huge loss for Chen Long again, who was seeded 5 in tournament.
In the second round Leverdez will face Japanese Kanta TSUNEYAMA, who was able to beat Jan O Jorgesen 12-21, 21-17, 21-6.
