After all seeded men’s doubles eased through first round successfully, we saw the first exit today. The 8th seeded pair from Malaysia was just two points from the quarterfinal.
While all seeded entries in men’s double eased past their opponents in first round of Chinese Taipei Open yesterday, the first seeded pair had to leave the tournament today. It was Mohamad Arif Ab Latif Arif and Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn from Malaysia who couldn’t live up to their seeding.
The two Malaysians did however come very close. Eventually they lost today’s second round match with 19-21 in third game against Keiichiro Matsui and Yoshinori Takeuchi from Japan. And that was even after leading 19-15 but a streak of 6 points closed the battle in favor of the Japanese duo.
30-28 and 27-25
For three of the four seeded Taiwanese pairs things still look good though. The 2nd, 3rd and 7th seeded are all through to the quarterfinals after winning the first two rounds. For one of them it hasn’t been without nerves though.
Liao Min Chun and Su Ching Heng are seeded 3 and have played three games in both their first matches. The results of two of the games, one in each match, have been more interesting than what we are used to seeing. Yesterday they lost 28-30 on their way to defeating compatriots Chang En Chia and Chen Xin-Yuan. And today they just made it past other compatriots Lu Chen and Ye Hong Wei with 27-25 in third game.
Different story for second seeds
For second seeded Lee Jhe-Huei and Lee Yang it has been a very different story. They have won both their first matches in straight games and the maximum points scored against them is 16. Lee and Lee defeated two Indonesians yesterday and two Japanese today. Both opponents scored a total of 29 points against the Taiwanese duo.
Top seeds Chen Hung Lin and Wang Chi-Lin have just started their second round match against Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin from Malaysia as we publish these lines.
