In 2014 the World Championships was played in Denmark. And if the Danish Badminton Association get their way, the World Championships will also be played on Danish soil in 2022.
Badminton Denmark (The Danish Badminton Association) have publicly announced they are advocating to be the hosts of the World Championships in 2022. At first, they aim to get the World Cup, but is part of bigger plan to be able to host other big badminton events in the future.
“We are working to get more international championships to Denmark, including Thomas Cup, Uber Cup, Sudirman Cup, the junior World Championships and the Para World Championships – but we haven’t decided when they should be placed in Denmark yet,” says Bo Jensen, Director in Badminton Denmark to the Danish Media TV2.
So far, BWF has responded positively to the Danish Request. Besides being the hosts in 2014, Denmark has previously hosted the World Championships in 1983, 1991 and 1999.
The next World Championships will take place in China.
