The Danes were able to defend the title as European Mixed Team Champions at home, in Copenhagen. The team beat Germany 3-0 in the final of the tournament.
It is the 17th time that Denmark ends up at the top of the podium in the blast on the European Championship for mixed teams, and there was never too much excitement about the outcome in the finals.
In the finals in Frederiksberg it was all decided after the first three matches and all the Danish players performed at a very high level. With victories in the first three games, it was not necessary to send Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup in the men’s double match, just as the women’s doubles with Maiken Fruergaard and Christinna Pedersen were not played either.
It was also a happy Danish coach who tried to put words on the final victory: “ It was a power demonstration today. The players really came in character, and the audience was absolutely amazing”,says coach Kenneth Jonassen.
Results from the final:
Mathias Christiansen/Christinna Pedersen (DEN) vs. Isabel Herttrich/Mark Lamsfuss (GER) 21/12 21/12
Anders Antonsen (DEN) vs Max Weisskirchen (GER) 21/9 21/13
Line Kjaersfeldt (DEN) vs. Yvonne Li (GER) 21/16 21/17
Congratulations to Denmark!
