We have reached the quarterfinals of the World Tour Super 300 tournament in Taipei City and half way through the day we already have some interesting results. One of the new local pairs delivered the result of the day so far.
There are 25 seeded players or pairs out of the 40 that have reached the quarterfinals of Chinese Taipei Open. Men’s single is the category where most seeded players lost during the first two days; there are only three seeded players left in this category. In women’s single and men’s double there are still six seeded entries, while women’s double and mixed double have five each. But there was one match where the top seeds were sent out of the tournament by a new pair.
We have to look at the mixed doubles to find this interesting result. Top seeds Wang Chi-Lin and Lee Chia Hsin from Chinese Taipei – who are also competing in men’s double and women’s single respectively – were facing compatriots Yang Po-Hsuan and Wu Ti Jung in the first match of the day. And it turned out not to be a lucky day for the favorites.
Close affair in three games
Yang Po-Hsuan and Wu Ti Jung play there only second tournament together. They played at German Open in March where they reached second round. German Open is also a World Tour Super 300 tournament. And today they were big underdogs against Wang Chi-Lin and Lee Chia Hsin.
In the match today, which lasted just 46 minutes, if was the favorites who started off best. They led all the way through first game, which they won 21-17. Second game was decided by a strong finish by Yang and Wu though and they forced the match into three games. That third game was a very close affair where things were still undecided at 19-19.
Perfect performance in front of home crowd
The remaining two points that were played both went to Yang Po-Hsuan and Wu Ti Jung who have now reached their first semifinal together in their just second tournament together. And what other place to do this than in front of their home crowd in Taipei City…
The Chinese Taipei Open is therefore over for Lee Chia Hsin who lost in second round of women’s single yesterday. Wang Chi-Lin still has one shot in the bag; he is playing quarterfinal in men’s double with Chen Hung Ling in the last match of today.
